Vacations in Vancouver

Well, this is one of our more fortunate summers! Marty and I have been on two small outings since we came back. It was very hard to leave our house because the garden is really growing now. While we were in El Salvador, everything was still germinating and beginning to pop up - but now, we have tomatoes & tomatillos ripening, ears of corn filling out, beets & carrots pushing out of the soil and lettuce, swiss chard & beans filling the spaces with green leaves, garlic ready to be picked, onions and surprises from the compost making their way to our table! It is a fun time in the season. So you can imagine our friends and family must be pretty special to entice us away from this daily show.

For three days Marty and I and our two housemates (Jess and Dawn who live downstairs) camped in BC's Okanagan. Wine country! Very dry and very full of produce right now. BC's cherries are grown there as well as many other fruits and veg. It's a gorgeous place with orchards and vineyards everywhere. We were blessed to have a lake front camping spot - which is really unheard of in August. We waited too long to make reservations so we got up at 4:30 in the morning and arrived just as others were leaving. Whew. But it was really worth it. We're home bodies, so the camp was a great place to call "home" for three days.

The same week Marty's parents came to visit. We celebrated ENan's birthday with a latin festival at our park! and they took us over to Vancouver Island for three days. Victoria was a good British experience. Lots of flowers, tea, parliament buildings and great food (I don't know if that part is particularly British! but it's a city where lots of foods create fusions). We learned a lot about our province, bc the parliament building is only 111 yrs old! I'll post these pictures soon. My camera is a bit worn out these days. A couple of days later we were able to visit with some friends from NC and their son Jaimichael. More photos to come...

We might keep this blog going for a while.. so feel free to stop by when you can!.. and of course, send us a note to let us know how you're doing!
